This project aims to delve into the Medical loss ratio data for the 2022 reporting year available on the CMS.gov website, and to offer a deeper understanding of how medical claims is balanced against premium dollar across health insurance providers within the states they're domiciled in.
The MLR is calculated as the proportion of premiums spent on claims and service expenses. States are color-coded along a spectrum, with the mid-point being the regulatory benchmark of 85% utilization. This analysis highlights trends and regional differences, shedding light on efficiency in healthcare spending and providing valuable insights for stakeholders.
